CALC4CAD Background

In his February 2002 editorial, Arnie Williams of Cadence magazine stated that AutoCAD is "The Undisputed 2D King". I would have to agree since there are about 3,000,000 AutoCAD users and about 1,000,000 AutoCAD LT drafters and designers that have been trained at junior colleges and training centers to fill the needs of industry. The DWG drawing format used by AutoCAD is a standard in the CAD world. But at the same time, AutoCAD is not the best 3D CAD software available since the 3D functions of AutoCAD are difficult to learn and easy to forget if not used regularly. For this reason up to 75% of AutoCAD users do their designs in 2D and ignore the 3D functions. AutoCAD LT was originally designed for learning and training the 2D functions of AutoCAD but it has no programming language such as AutoLISP which makes it possible to customize AutoCAD. The cost of AutoCAD LT is about $700 while AutoCAD goes for about $3300.

AutoCAD Mechanical is a product that was designed to work inside AutoCAD to create 2D objects such as fasteners and steel shapes that are used by designers. The cost of AutoCAD Mechanical is an additional $900 over AutoCAD.

CALC4CAD is an easy to use application that creates script files that are sent to AutoCAD to create 2D fasteners, gears, sprockets, springs, steel shapes, hole charts and isometrics. CALC4CAD does not rely on AutoLISP to communicate with AutoCAD and it works just as well with AutoCAD LT.

From a cost point of view, if you are only using the 2D functions of AutoCAD, why not use AutoCAD LT and save $2600? And at the same time if you want the 2D standard parts of AutoCAD Mechanical, why not use CALC4CAD to save another $800? You can be among the 4,000,000 AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT users that can benefit from the powerful 2D features of CALC4CAD.
